COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
With the support of the University of Victoria, I recently became a new member of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. My membership allows me to attend networking events around Victoria and has given me countless opportunities to meet and connect with other business leaders. I am always keen on meeting new people, hearing insightful views on business, and thrive on developing relationships in all environments.
Chair's Holiday ReceptionIn December 2015, I attended the Chair's Holiday Reception at the Craigdarroch Castle. In addition to its beautiful venue and location, meeting business professionals from Victoria was truly rewarding. The place was fully packed and I unexpectedly ran into one of my former managers and even one of the University of Victoria's Co-op and Career Centre advisors. However, it was to my great surprise that I was able to use this networking event to step out of my comfort zone and make new professional connections.

Let's be honest.. networking can be a nerve-wracking activity that may even make business students anxious. Nonetheless, I have quickly discovered it is vital to being successful. It is necessary for creating new connections with those who may be potential employers, mentors, and even friends. I found the Prodigy Group to be a great way to meet with other business professionals and to share experiences/insight in a friendly environment. Through the May Mingle, I quickly developed connections with young and established business leaders, and I found the experience very beneficial. I gained valuable insight from a recent UVic BCOM grad, lawyers, accountants, and several small business owners. The appies, upbeat live music, and summer vibes definitely helped ease those nerves and led to an enjoyable evening with new friends.
